How and WHY to send/receive your domain’s email using Gmail Tue, 01 Nov 2016 18:16:40 +0000 Read the Rest » ]]> First, why Gmail?

10 Reasons Clean Web Design recommends Gmail:

  1. Best spam fighting tools, hands down
  2. Gigs of Space – you won’t soon run out of mailbox storage space – avoid those un-deliverable bounce notices when you return from vacation!
  3. Searchable – quickly find email by searching like you do in Google
  4. Flexible – check your email from any computer phone or other device, and/or continue to use Outlook, Thunderbird, Mac Mail
  5. Configurable – use it how you like it – layout, theme, filters & labels, signatures, out of office/busy auto-reply
  6. Secure – https encrypted
  7. Fast – loads quickly and has shortcut keys like f to forward, r to reply
  8. Shows attachment thumbnail images
  9. Backup & Sync – if you hard drive fails or laptop is stolen – you will still have your mail and contacts
  10. We use it!

Do you love Gmail? Have a tip or trick? Please leave a comment!

Now, How to send/receive your domain’s email using Gmail:

1. Go to

2. Add an email forwarder pointing to your Gmail email address (new or existing)

3. Log into Gmail, go to Mail Settings (under the gear icon at top right) > Accounts and Import

4. Under Send mail as: (Use Gmail to send from your other email addresses) > Add another email address you own

5. Enter your email [], and decide whether or not to “Treat as an alias” (info below adapted from this Google Support page)

Treat as an alias (checked)

  • Messages you send to [] appear as unread in your Inbox
    (useful for sending yourself to-dos/reminders)
  • If you receive a message from [] and you click Reply, the To: field is filled with your primary address.
  • If you receive a message from a group that uses the same address as your [],
and you click Reply All, the To: field does not include the address of the group that sent the message.
Do NOT treat as an alias (unchecked)
  • Messages you send to a [] do not appear in your Inbox
(you can still find it in Sent – useful for personal assistants**)
  • If you receive a message from a [] and you click Reply, the To: field is filled with the sender’s address.
(useful if you’re replying to a threaded email and you sent the last message, but don’t want to reply to yourself)
  • If you receive a message from a group that uses the same address as your [],
and you click Reply All, the To: field includes the address of the group that sent the message.

**Example: Ben is Mary’s personal assistant. Ben often needs to send email on behalf of Mary, and he uses Send mail as to send emails for Mary from her account using his account. Because Ben and Mary email each other often, it’s confusing for Ben to see his emails to Mary appear as unread in his Inbox. Also, when Ben composes a reply to Mary’s email, the To: field shows his primary email address.

In this case, Ben should turn off the default Treat as an alias setting. With Treat as an alias turned off, Ben’s emails to Mary will appear in his Sent mail and not in his Inbox, and when he composes a reply to Mary’s email, the To: field will show Mary’s primary email address.

6. Click Next, then enter [], your hosting account’s cpanel username and password (provided when you signed up for hosting).
Please ask us for this if you can’t find your welcome email and we’ll resend it.

7. Click Add Account then verify by clicking a link in the mail titled: “Gmail Confirmation – Send Mail as []

Missing contact email messages or orders from Yahoo/AOL users? Sat, 22 Aug 2015 18:18:31 +0000 Read the Rest » ]]> yahooFeel like you’re not getting all the messages through your contact form that you used to get?

You are probably right!

AOL and Yahoo have created this problem for their users (and the companies that service their users), so now everyone who allows a customer to send them an email through a web form has to make updates, or they will never see those messages from Yahoo or AOL email users.

What to do? Update your contact form scripts so the “from” part of email headers can not be filled with an AOL or Yahoo address. Instead, add “reply-to” to the email headers to catch the sender’s address, and change “from” to your email.

If you’re using PHP’s sendmail function, it will look something like this:

$myemail = '';
mail($to,$subject,$message,"From: $myemail\r\nReply-To: $sendersemail\r\n");

Clean Web Design can help you get things set straight. Please contact us so we can make this simple change. Most updates will take less than 10 minutes if you’ve worked with us before.

Stefanie Dash Marvel featured in the Wood River Studio Tour this weekend! (Aug 22-23) Thu, 20 Aug 2015 04:55:00 +0000 Read the Rest » ]]> Stefanie MarvelFrom the Idaho Mountain Express by Julie Bramowitz

With its soaring, steepled ceiling and streams of late-afternoon sunlight casting shadows on the floor, weaver Stefanie Dash Marvel’s Hailey studio possesses the tranquil sanctity of a chapel. A Swedish-manufactured Glimåkra loom occupies one corner of the space, its intricate anatomy of wheels and bars as awe-inspiring as a church organ. And Marvel, soft-spoken and barefoot as she tiptoes through her second-story aerie, has the quiet grace of an ecclesiastic when she sits down to work on a Navajo-style tapestry.

Marvel’s solemnity when speaking about her craft belies a sly sense of humor and a colorful life that began as the daughter of two freethinking artists. Her father was a painter and arts educator; her mother, a fashion designer and set designer for Off-Broadway theater. In college, Marvel took a class at the Art Institute of Chicago, which led her to the Penland School of Crafts in North Carolina, where she mastered her minimalist, nature-inspired style. Forty-five years ago, she taught workshops in Stanley and later opened a storefront in the valley.

Working on the Glimåkra, Marvel uses her fingers and a metal fork to thread wool or linen—the warp—through the supporting strings, or weft. In recent years, Marvel has begun to paint acrylic designs on her tapestries; the papers she lays underneath capture the excess paint, which forms abstract patterns, around which she draws minute geometries with a metallic pen.

What drew Marvel to weaving, she said, is that she likes “the building of color into a structure.” She’s especially enamored with textiles’ interplay with light and movement. “When there’s a breeze,” she said, “the pieces have a different kind of life to them.”
